HIll Country Middle School MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL KATHLEEN SULLIVAN October 13, 2017 The Smack Down is On!
Now is your chance to help Hill Country beat West Ridge! The middle school with the highest percentage of donations to EEF will be deemed the winner. The winning principal will be awarded an EEF championship belt, while the losing principal has to wear the opposing school's spirit gear to the Hill Country vs. West Ridge football game on October 31st. It has been a few years since we last had this competition (and sadly we lost), let's not let that happen again!
All fun aside, EEF funded 6 staff members at HCMS this year: Ingram Milam – English Language Arts Tyson Dobinsky - STEM/Robotics Cynthia Peterson – School Nurse Amy Hodge – PE/Girls' Athletics Rachel Horvitz - Orchestra
In many districts, positions like most of those above are considered non-essential. Thanks to EEF, we are so fortunate that we do not have to cut these positions!
Help us beat West Ridge!! PIcture Retakes Photo Texas Photography will be on campus during lunch Wednesday, October 18 to shoot retake and makeup pics. If your plans are to have retake photos taken, the original packet will need to be returned to the photographer. The photographers will be located in the foyer of the large gym.

Social and emotional learning (SEL) provides the foundation for this environment. EISD has chosen to highlight relationship skills as our SEL focus for the first nine weeks. Using Second Step as our curriculum, teachers are helping students develop the skills necessary to develop healthy relationships with others. As our partners in education, we encourage you to support our efforts in this area. The Parent Toolkit is a resource for parents that was developed by NBC News Education Nation and is supported by Pearson. The Toolkit provides parents a wealth of information, in English and Spanish, on social and emotional development in addition to academics, health & wellness, financial literacy, and college & career. According to the Parent Toolkit one way to help middle school students learn social skills and relationship-building abilities is to talk about first impressions. Teach your teen “how to maintain eye contact, speak clearly, introduce themselves and smile or convey warmth to make a good first impression.” Support your teen by role-playing and helping them introduce themselves to others.
