MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL KATHLEEN SULLIVAN

Empathy in Action

The tragic events as a result of Hurricane Harvey have touched us all in the past week.  Many of you and your children have family and friends who have been impacted by this horrific event.  I, myself, have struggled as I watch the images of my damaged hometown, Clear Lake, a suburb of Houston. I have lost sleep over my parents who chose to stay, worrying if they would have to be the next group in need of rescue.  We were among the fortunate, thankfully, and they are fine, as is their property.

Our Student Council and NJHS students are leading a relief effort in which students are asked to bring $25 Visa gift cards, or to make a welcome kit (list attached) that will be taken to the Austin Relief Network. All donations are to be turned in to your student's advisory teacher.  We thank you and your children for your kindness with supporting those in need.

Time for Homework Hall

Homework Hall is now open for students!  Students are welcome to attend to complete homework and make up quizzes and/or tests.  Students are only allowed to leave once it concludes at 5:00pm.  It is a quiet area, so silence is encouraged and maintained at all times.

Hours: Monday – Thursday, 4pm – 5pm

School Pictures - Sept. 6, 2017

Students will have their photos taken during the day on Wednesday. Your child should have brought home an order form this week, please check with them.

The EEF HCMS COMMITEE would like to thank you for coming to "Back To School Night" - please remember to donate to The EEF Teacher Fund at: https://eaneseducationfoundation.org/teacher-fund/
Or drop a check in the Red EEF Box in the HCMS Office.
Thank You!

HEALTHY STUDENTS

For the month of May, we will be focusing on Responsible Decision Making or Choices. In order to support your teen with good decision-making skills, give your teen the opportunity to talk about their problem in their own words, visit with your teen about choices, help your teen identify and compare choices and consequences, and finally let your teen make the decision and carry it out.

To learn more about how to support teen with good decision making skills read “Helping Your Teen Make Responsible Choices”.
