6th Grade Information

Welcome incoming 6th grade parents!

As president of the Cougar Club, I’d like to welcome you to the slightly more hands-off world of parenting a middle school-er and also share 3 important, before-school-ends pieces of info that’s good to know as you navigate this brave new world!

1.     ONLINE STORE: Our online store opened May 1st and will be open until June 30at to purchase these required and nice-to-have things:

a.     PE wear - all kids change to a uniform for PE, this is required and as experienced parents, the cougar club recommends two sets. (At least one set is required)

b.     Student fees - this covers field trips, grade level events, classroom consumables and carnival. (Required)

c.     6th grade planner - helps as kiddos transition into being more responsible for themselves. (Required)

d.     Earbuds - all students are required to have earbuds at HCMS - these handily attach right to the backpack. (Required)

e.     Spirit wear - Yay! They’re at HCMS! Show some pride with an awesome assortment of gear from shirts to hoodies to socks.

f.      Cougar Club membership - $20 per family to join our merry band of cougar moms and dads on our madcap adventures in volunteering – this goes toward our overall budget.

g.     Friends of Hill Country - this is our one-time fundraiser to pay for things throughout the year like library improvements, iPad mobile lab, science equipment, health DVDs, orchestra podiums, special ed. Needs, teen skills equipment and much more! Any amount is welcomed, we just appreciate your support

h.     NOT SCHOOL SUPPLIES: Alas, the days of picking up pre-packaged supplies are over. Now you get to head to Office Depot, HEB or hit Amazon to get those folders and highlighters and such. The school supply lists will be posted on the home page at

2.     BACK TO SCHOOL POOL PARTY: Wednesday August 16 from 3-5, join your friends and meet some new ones at Lost Creek Pool! This fun get together is sponsored by the Cougar Club and gives the kids the chance to reacquaint themselves before Hill Country Hello.

3.     HILL COUNTRY HELLO: Thursday August 17 in the afternoon, kids can come walk their schedule and meet some teachers while parents can pick up those smartly pre-ordered-from-the-online-store items as well as sign up to volunteer so you can still see your kid in their new environment. If you’ve forgotten anything, you can probably buy it here. Mrs. Sullivan will be sending out more info about this day in late summer.
