MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL KATHLEEN SULLIVAN

January 26, 2018

FLU Notes

If you have watched the news lately you have seen information about the flu. We have seen some flu here but not in large amounts. In an attempt to keep us healthy I wanted to send out these flu prevention tips from the Center of Disease Control  for us to practice and talk to our students about.

·  Get the Flu Shot, it is not too late.

·  Stay home if you are sick

·  Avoid touching your face - your mouth, nose, and eyes.

·  Wash your hands frequently with soap and water.

·  Avoid others who are sick.

·  Cough or sneeze into your sleeve or into a tissue.

If your child is running a fever, no matter what the reason is, please keep them home. This will prevent the spread of any viruses and will keep you student from getting sicker. Teachers will work with students on make up work when they return, their health is the most important thing.

Thanks for helping us keep as many folks as healthy as possible!!!

NJHS

Is your 7th or 8th grader an honor student? It's Application Time for National Junior Honor Society!  Students in the 7th and 8th grade who consistently exhibit high character, good citizenship, and a 92.5 or above average are invited to complete the online application.  8th grade students who are admitted to the program would participate in April and May, 2018, however NJHS membership does not transfer to high school.  Please visit the NJHS website for more information about calculating the average. Students must complete the application using their Eanes account. All applications are due no later than January 31, 2018.

If you have questions, please contact Rhoni McClennahan at rmcclennahan@eanesisd.net.

Social-Awareness

Social-Awareness and caring for others is the EISD SEL focus for the third nine weeks. Empathy is being able to understand and value someone else's perspective and having compassion for others even when they are different from ourselves.

One of the ways parents can support their teens with tolerance and acceptance is to continue to have an open dialogue. "Providing messages that promote healthy self-esteem can go a long way to encourage [teens] to embrace differences in [themselves] and others". We can support our teens in understanding and accepting others by initiating conversations around relevant current issues. Our teens are watching and listening to how we treat others.
