MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL KATHLEEN SULLIVAN

Sock Hop!!

We went back in time to the 50's today. Our sixth graders were clad in poodle skirts, Pink Lady jackets, leather jackets, letter-man jackets and more fun 50's fashion.  After lunch they could be seen enjoying Coke floats, playing with hula hoops and taking fun photo booth pictures in a makeshift Cadillac. The most exciting part was the dance competition, where students showed off the dance moves they had learned in PE class, during their Ballroom Dance Unit. A big thank you to Jenn Brooks and Annie Brown for organizing the volunteers and to all the parents who made the day a success!

Something Special for President's Day

In honor of the upcoming President's Day, 8th grade students had the opportunity to hear from CNN Presidential Historian, Dr. Douglas Brinkley, during their history classes. Dr. Brinkley is a Distinguished Professor of History at Rice University and a prolific author of award-winning books. His latest book, American Moonshot: John F. Kennedy and the Great Space Race, is coming out soon to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Neil Armstrong's famous moon landing.

Students learned about defining accomplishments of various presidents and plenty of fun facts about our history. Feel free to ask them what they learned today! We are grateful to Dr. Brinkley for taking the time to help give the upcoming holiday more meaning for students, and we are grateful to the parents in our community who help us provide our students with rich learning experiences.

UIL Academic T-shirt ($11/$12) Orders and Celebration ($20)

----> Forms and contracts were handed out to UIL students yesterday.  If your child did not receive a copy, he or she may come to Ms. Boyd's room (301) to pick one up, clike HERE to print one at home, or pick one up in the front office.

*

It is time to order your UIL t-shirt. Any parent or student on the HCMS campus is welcome to order a shirt. These are for our Academic UIL competition in March. Students are not required to purchase a shirt, but it does support the UIL program, the teams, and provide a spirit of camaraderie.

*

All Academic UIL contestants will receive an information packet from their coach this week. Additional forms are available in the front office and via the attached link. Academic UIL contestants will need to either purchase a shirt or wear one of a similar blue color on the day of the competition.

*

Additionally, all Academic UIL contestants (including alternates) are invited to attend the celebration party at Main Event on April 15th. Students will receive a $10 pre-loaded game card, unlimited rock climbing, laser tag, bowling, putt-putt, and more, and lunch with a drink for just $20. Since we must pay Main Event ahead of time, this is non-refundable.

*

Orders for shirts and/or celebration slots are due on or before February 26, 2019 to Ms. Boyd. You may drop off completed forms and either a check or cash to the front office or Ms. Boyd's room.

*

Thank you for supporting our Academic UIL competition! Please contact Crystal Boyd if you have questions, cboyd@eanesisd.net

This is what the shirts look like, but they will be BLUE (like the sample picture).  This is a different blue than last year's tees.
