August 23, 2019 MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL KATHLEEN SULLIVAN Great Start! We have had a super start to the school year. Students are doing well settling into their new routines and schedules. It has been fun to see their excitement this week. Our staff focus has been on building relationships and gradually getting into our course work. Next week we will dive in. By the end of today, all students should have an iPad issued to them. New this year, our district web filtering system will be in place on the iPads as a safeguard against inappropriate content access. Students will need to bring their charged iPad every day. Our teachers work to integrate them into their instruction in a meaningful way, so it is important for students to have the device with them. Students will not be able to use their cell phone as a backup, as cell phones are not to be out or tuned on between 8:35 AM and 4:00 PM. To get in touch with your student, you may email him or her. Students are to check email daily. All classrooms have a phone in them, so if your student needs to get a hold of you, he or she will have access to a phone.
Theme Song We continue to work with our students promoting the value of kindness. If you read Dr. Leonard's message, you are aware this is a district focus. Here at Hill Country we will focus on promoting the theme of "being nice" all year. In fact, the other morning we introduced the students to our "theme song" for the year. We will refer back to the chorus that you can read below..
"Be different,
After all, kindness can make a difference, and with some of the recent happenings in the world, we could indeed use that.
Back To School Nights We can't wait to see you all at our Back to School Nights next week. The 6th grade Back to School is Wednesday, August 28, and the 7th and 8th grade Back to School is Thursday, August 29. Both are from 6-8 PM. I will send more detailed information next week about your specific grade-level night. We hope to see you there!
