Welcome Back from Principal Dewrell

Dear HCMS Cougars and Families,

Roar with excitement as we welcome you back to another thrilling school year at Hill Country. As many of our returning families know, we said farewell to the previous principal, Kathleen Sullivan, at the end of the last school year. We are incredibly grateful for her service and dedication to Eanes ISD and wish her well on her deserved retirement!

As the (new) proud principal of our mighty Cougar community, I am honored to warmly welcome our incredible students and families. Whether you are a returning student or joining our community for the first time, I am thrilled to have all of you as part of our school family. Get ready to embark on a wild adventure filled with learning, friendships, and unforgettable moments.

Like the majestic Cougars in the wild, we want our Hill Country students to be strong, agile, and fearless. Together, we will embrace challenges, explore new territories, and discover the depths of our potential. Our dedicated staff is committed to providing an educational experience that sparks curiosity and nurtures character, resilience, and a passion for lifelong learning.

We have been busy over the summer in preparation for the 2023-2024 school year. As we gather once again within our Cougar den, we want to assure you that your health, safety, and well-being remain our top priorities. We have put in place extensive measures to ensure a secure and nurturing environment for all members of our Cougar family.

We have a lot of new ideas to freshen up our campus and build our school community -  we can’t wait to share them with you!  Throughout this school year, we will celebrate our Cougar pride (stay tuned for PAWS APPLAUSE awards, which highlight our students who live out our Cougar values: Honesty, Respect, and Pride daily) as well as take part in PAWS for a CAUSE -  opportunities to serve our immediate community through acts of service. Don’t forget to order/pick up your Cougar gear each Friday, and we will wear our Hill Country colors to demonstrate our school spirit #CougarNation!  Our hallways will echo with laughter, our classrooms will buzz with creativity, and our sports fields will witness displays of teamwork and sportsmanship by both student-athletes and musicians alike that will make our Cougar community proud.

We value the partnership between home and school. Parents and guardians, we encourage you to actively engage in your child's educational journey by attending school events, volunteering (we’d love your help, especially in our Cougar Cafe!!), joining our Cougar Booster Club, or supporting their learning at home.

Remember, as Cougars, we respect and support one another. It is paramount we show kindness and empathy towards all members of our school family. A catchphrase that will soon be heard around the school is, “How you choose to live matters.” We challenge you to help your students understand how everyone is connected to one another and that it serves us all when we serve one another.

Welcome back, mighty Cougars! Let's make this a year to remember!

Roaring with pride,
Mrs. Dewrell
